Admission Requirements

New Lower School ballet students are accepted as space allows. Beginners are accepted who are five years old by September first and up to age 8 into existing classes for six and seven year olds. Beginners ages nine and up have a class of their own. There are three jazz classes offered once a week. Jazz I for 8-10 yr. olds, Jazz II (intermediate), and Jazz III (advanced).

•••••

New Upper School students entering seventh through twelfth grades are also accepted as space allows. Only previously trained students are accepted and must prove by audition in a class that their training meets the standard set by each class. This decision rests with the Artistic Director and faculty.

•••••

Each faculty member is required to write student evaluations for each upper school student once a year. These are followed by individual conferences to discuss with each dancer their progress in their training and how they can improve. It is our intention to be realistic about problems, but also address individual assets and encourage each student to develop to their best potential.

•••••

Present enrollment is approximately 125 students. Students in Levels 3 (9 year olds), are required to take two one hour ballet classes per week, increasing to 1.5 hours in Levels 4 and 5. Level A students increase to two hours of ballet twice a week including 30 minutes of pointe for qualified students. In addition Upper school students are required to take one non-ballet once a week. By Level C, students are required to take three ballet classes per week and two non-ballet classes. Pointe is always optional in recognition that all feet are not built correctly for this style of dance. Such dancers are encouraged to concentrate more on the non-ballet curriculum, but still must meet the requirements of the ballet classes if they wish to be considered for performance opportunities.
